Runes-Duel mechanics in Rune Seeker’s battle
Runes-Duel Mechanics is a crucial mechanism in battles at Rune Seeker. Understanding the mechanics of Runes-Duel will help players get a full picture of how a battle at Rune Seeker works and be fully prepared to take on future opponents.
Hello, Rune Seekers! The battles in the world of Rune Seeker are not just a place for fighting monsters in Campaigns, but also a place for competing with other players through the ability to combine Unit and Runes skills with Terrain, strategic vision, and improvisation with variables in the match.
In this article, we will introduce and explain the Runes-Duel mechanics, an important mechanism that greatly affects the outcome of battles. Understanding the mechanics of Runes-Duel will help players get a full picture of how a battle at Rune Seeker works and be fully prepared to take on future opponents.
1. What’s in a Rune Seeker battle?
a) Units
Units are characters that players can bring into battle (up to 3 Units in battle), and they are the direct combat units in battles at Rune Seekers. During battle, Units will receive buffs or debuffs from Terrains and Runes, and players can combine these with their skills to overcome opponents and achieve victory. Unit power can be increased through equipment and skill upgrades as well as unit evolution.
When players place their 3 Units on the Terrain tiles in the field for the first turn, the units’ positions will remain fixed and unchanged throughout the battle.
b) Runes
Runes are stones broken from Ancient Tablets during the Age of Creation and represent the power of the Old Gods in the Rune Seeker world. Runes are used to create beneficial or detrimental effects on the Terrain and Units of both you and your opponent in battle. There are two types of Runes: Absorption and Creation. These two kinds of Rune Shards have different roles and are used for two objects, Unit, and Terrain, respectively. In addition, Runes are also divided into Effect and Attack Runes. This classification makes sense in the Action phase of the battle, which I will introduce later.
When players use Runes on a Unit or Terrain during the Command phase at the beginning of each turn, the duel mechanism becomes active.
2. Runes-Duel Mechanics in Rune Seeker
Before delving into the mechanics of Runes duels, let me introduce you to the sequence of battles in Rune Seeker.
Rune Seeker’s battles utilize a real-time parallel counting system, where the factions involved make decisions at the same time. A good example of this turn-taking system is the game of Scissors, where players simultaneously make their playing decisions and deal with the consequences of those decisions.
Each turn in Rune Seeker’s battle has two phases: the Command phase and the Action phase.
a) Command phase:
The Command phase is the first stage of each battle turn. During this phase, players of both factions have control and use their Runes on Units or Terrain with the right strategy to maximize their advantage in the Action Phase. Here are the details:
- The Command phase lasts for 20 seconds.
- Runes in the player’s hand appear at the bottom of the screen. Players use these Runes on Units or Terrains to serve in combat during the Action phase. The system records the order of use of each Rune of the two opposing players in real-time to determine the order of execution during the Action phase.
- Units that receive no effects from the player’s Runes will perform their Default Action unless there is an Effect that affects that Unit’s action, such as an effect from the Observatory Tower.
b) Action phase:
After the Command phase ends, the battle moves to the Action phase, where the actions and orders taken by players of both factions in the Command phase are executed. During this phase, players cannot influence any events taking place. The Action phase is divided into three parts:
- Effect Deployment:
All auxiliary effects (buffs or debuffs) related to Terrain or Units will be deployed in this section. The order of execution follows the order of real-time Rune usage by the two factions in the previous Command phase. Runes with a Type parameter of Effect will be deployed in this section.
- Attack Deployment:
After the Effect rollout is over, the players and Units of both factions begin to deploy damaging attacks. Runes with a Type parameter of Attack will be deployed in this section.
- Resolve:
Resolve the effect logic at the end of the Action phase, such as Terrain Merging, resolving the lifecycle of an effect on the Unit, resolving the Spirit lifecycle, etc.
c) Runes-Duel mechanics:
During the command phase of each turn, an object (Unit or Terrain) can only receive one Runes. Players (on either side) cannot place more than one Runes on each of those objects. If:
- A player places a second Runes on the same object, the game will report an error and not allow the player to perform this action.
- The opponent also places their Runes on the object where the player previously placed a Runes, in the Action phase, the Runes-Duel Mechanic will come into play:
- During a duel, the first Rune that was placed on the object in real-time during the previous Command phase will win, and only the winning Rune will be applied to that object. Runes placed after (losing) will be discarded and not applied.
This means that if you want your calculations and tactics to be effective in battle, you must quickly use Runes on the necessary objects (Units/Terrains) before your opponent. If you hesitate to use Runes in the Command phase, there’s a chance that your opponent has already played their Rune, and the Runes-Duel Mechanic will cause your Rune to be eliminated in the Action phase. Your battle plan will be turned upside down, as you have lost a Runes, and your opponent takes full advantage of their hand.
“Runes-Duel Mechanics” is a crucial mechanism in battles at Rune Seeker. Although this mechanism is simply about who is quicker, to leverage it fully to optimize your advantages in battle, you must understand the characteristics and abilities not only of your own Units and Runes but also of many opponents in the future. This is not to mention that Runes appear randomly in each turn. You not only need to be quick but also have the ability to adapt to many variables in battle. This requires a serious attitude when participating in the journey at Rune Seeker.
Note: The Runes-Duel mechanism only activates when both players use Runes on the same object. If, in a turn, the two players use Runes on different, non-overlapping objects, the Runes-Duel Mechanic will not take place, and the effects from the runes will be executed in the normal sequence that I described in the Command and Action phases above.
Dear Rune Seekers! I have introduced and explained what you need to know about Runes-Duel Mechanics. Train hard and have fun on your adventure and battles at Rune Seeker!
