In this Alpha Test version, players will have access to a wide range of Units to experiment within battle. The game generates a random pool of Runes for each player, ensuring that every player has a unique and personalized gameplay experience.

Hello Rune Seekers! We are delighted to announce that the Closed Alpha Test of our exciting turn-based strategy game, Rune Seeker, is now available! As you embark on your journey through the mythical world of Rune Seeker, you will discover a world full of magical Runes and powerful creatures!

In this Alpha Test version, players will have access to a wide range of Units to experiment within battle. The game generates a random pool of Runes for each player, ensuring that every player has a unique and personalized gameplay experience.

The Alpha Test version offers the opportunity to explore several significant features. Such as:

  • Units and Runes management
  • PvE game mode (single map)
  • PvP Arena Battle

Please note that the current Alpha Test version only includes approximately 10% (or even less) of the full Rune Seeker game. We are continuously working on developing other critical components, such as the Base, Unit and Rune System, Matching mechanism, monster system, Marketplace, and many more. Additionally, we are committed to improving the overall player experience by addressing graphics and sound quality, game flow, UI/UX design, and game balance, which will be updated significantly in future iterations.

In order to enhance your understanding of the gameplay, we kindly suggest that you take some time to read our instructional article provided below.

1. Units and Runes management

Unit and Runes are the main combat objects in every battle in Rune Seeker. Unit represents the most direct and intuitive combat object, once all of your Units get executed by the enemies in the battlefield, you lose that battle. And aside from Units, Runes are used to have a continuous and significant effect on Units and Terrain during each turn, so the battle result is heavily reliant on Runic skills and strategies. The more skilled you are, the more flexible your strategy, the better your chances of winning battles.

Therefore, understanding the characteristics of Units and Runes will help you build reasonable tactical ideas, as well as know how to choose and use Runes in accordance with your favorite Units. Now, let’s get this tutorial started!

After entering the game, the Base interface will be your default interface, click on the Runes icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

Now, the Battle Desk interface will appear, this is the place for you to manage your Units and Runes. In this Alpha Test, all testers will have 10 separate Units. Each Unit has different stats, elements and skills. However, Runes will be generated completely randomly for each player, ensuring that no player will have the same Runes Pool.

a) Unit

Each Unit has these basic information:

Element: Each Unit carries one in the four elements of Aqua, Ignis, Aer and Terra. Illustrated by the symbol of that Element in the lower left corner of the Unit. For example, Griffin Defender belongs to the Aer.

Evolution: 3 levels from EVO-0 to EVO-2. This stat indicates the Unit’s evolution level, with EVO-0 being the first default level for all Units. This Alpha Test will not have the Evolution feature of the Unit.

Unit stats: Including:
- ATK: Unit’s attack power.
- HP: Unit’s health.
- SPD: Determine Unit’s attack priority in comparison to other Units on the field. Example: if Griffin Defender (SPD 9) faces Vanguard Centaur (SPD 30) on the battlefield, Vanguard Centaur will attack first since it has a higher SPD stat.
- EQL: The Runes load capacity of a Unit.

Default action: The action a Unit performs when not altered by Runes. Normal attack or Basic attack, for example.

Unit Skills: Each Unit has 3 skills in order from top to bottom: Skill of the Star, Skill of the Moon and Skill of the Sun.

Unit Gear: Each Unit has a set of gears that includes four gears (Weapon — Armor — Ring — Talisman). These gears are equipped on the Unit by default and cannot be disassembled or replaced. Upgrading gears increases the Unit’s main stat and unlocks bonus stats with special effects. In the Alpha Test, you will be able to use Gold to upgrade your Unit’s equipment.

Click on the gear icon associated with that Unit, and the upgrade interface will appear.

First, let’s review the stats, element and skills of all the Units you currently have in your Battle Desk. Then, select your top three favorite Units. Once you have chosen your preferred Units, click on the icon located in the upper left corner of the Unit to access the Runes storage.

In the default interface, Runes will be scattered and random in the Units you own, drag and drop all Runes back to Runes storage. This will make it easier for you to read information about Runes and more convenient to put Runes into the Units you have chosen above.

b) Runes

All Runes are created at random from two Rune Shards, including Creation on the left, and Absorption on the right:

  • Creation: cast on a Unit to activate attack skills or special effects.
  • Absorption: used on an empty or Elemental Terrain tile to change its properties or enchant special effects on it.

Each Rune Shard also has skulls, from 1 skull to 3 skulls, representing Rune’s capacity index, or Runes Load. A completed Runes Load calculated as the total skulls of component Runes — Creation Rune and Absorption Rune.

For example, this Runes has a total 4 skulls as its Runes load.

As stated in the above part, each Unit has an EQL stat (load capacity) representing Runes load, so when you attach the desired Runes to each Unit, the total Runes load of all Runes cannot exceed that Unit’s EQL.

Runes load is an important feature of Units since it allows players to diversify their tactics, for example, whether to use Units with high attack power but low EQL or those with low attack power but high EQL in each battle.

In the previous statement, I recommended that you select the three most suitable Units for yourself. Now, it’s time to pick the Runes that you believe would be the most appropriate for the Units you have chosen. Please keep in mind that the Runes you choose should match the Units’ abilities and Elements and also take into account the EQL of the Units you have picked.

Once selected, you will have a complete battle formation, which will look like the following:

2. Game modes

a) PvE

The Alpha Test version will feature a complete PvE Campaign, where you will fight against monsters and bosses to earn Gold as rewards. You can replay Campaign PvE to accumulate Gold to upgrade your Unit’s equipment.

b) PvP

To challenge other players in the PvP mode, click on the Arena button in the right corner of the Base interface. Then select the 3 Units you want and find your challenger.

3. Important Mechanics

a) Four-Elemental system

Elements in Rune Seeker counteract by the following rules: Ignis weakens Aer, Aer dulls Terra, Terra restrains Aqua, and Aqua extinguishes Ignis. On the battlefield, there are two objects that have the Four Elements attribute: Unit and Terran Tile.

  • Terrain: Four-Elemental Terrains provide passive effects (either positive or negative) to the Units around them, in accordance with the Four Elements system, specifically as follows:
  • Unit: Each Unit carries an Element, which possesses either advantages or disadvantages over the others. The following illustration shows the advantages and disadvantages of all Units in the Alpha Test version when they attack Units of other Elements.

b) Runes-Duel mechanics:

The Runes-Duel Mechanics, one of the most crucial and unique mechanics of Rune Seeker, will also be available in this Alpha Test version. This mechanic means that only one Rune is allowed to apply to a Unit or a Terrain tile in the battlefield.

If two opponents (two players in PvP mode, for example) use their Runes on the same target, the Runes-Duel Mechanics will appear. The player who uses the Rune on the target faster in real-time during the command phase will win against the opponent with the Runes-Duel Mechanics. Only the Rune he used will be applied to that target, and his opponent’s Rune will be counted as a loss and will disappear. Read our article about Runes-Duel Mechanics here.
